Following a lead in this forum I acquired a nice Broomhandle Mauser for £88, posted, which I was well pleased with having fancied one for some time. Realising that it needed checking I decided to have a quick garden session. Our garden is only 9 metres long so it needed some careful siting to get a little 7 metre range and if I was going to do it I would have to follow the RAF style guidelines. Hence the bottle of beer on the table, I have to confess to having eaten the pie before deciding to take the photograph. I also wanted to try out a Webley Premier and Junior that I had recently acquired to recapture those halcyon days of my youth which is why you have a couple of none replicas on the forum. I had a cracking afternoon and interestingly the 2 Webleys were putting most shots in a 2" circle however the Mauser - not so. It worked perfectly and is fun however even with the sights set at their lowest it consistently sent the pellets six or more inches above the target (that is the target not the centre). My question - has anyone else got one of these and experienced a similar problem with a solution or do I accept defeat and have a go at aging it and keep it as part of a display.

Lovely collection of flower pots and oh, the guns are nice as well 😊 ....was just about to say the same. Love a nicely laid out and well-maintained garden! Nice pair of Webleys as well!

Lovely collection of flower pots and oh, the guns are nice as well 😊 BTW....your accuracy problem is, that you're comparing the Mauser against 2 'proper' air pistols! The Webleys will always prevail.....! Those Webleys look to be in superb condition.

The Webleys will always prevail.....! Those Webleys look to be in superb condition. When I was a lad I had an old 'Junior' which went everywhere with me, even school and Scouts hidden in the bottom of an even older WW1 gas mask bag. For purely nostalgic reasons I decided to get myself one which inevitably rapidly expanded into a mini collection of a Junior, Premier and Hurricane all of which are in good working condition. The mini nostalgia collection is stopping there. I had realised that the comparison between the Mauser in BB and the Webleys would not be a fair one however I was surprised that it was so far out compared to the dozen or so replica pistols I own. The revolvers come out on top with the Nagant and the Webley being the best and even the blow-back auto's like the Luger. P38 and PPK get most shots into the target.

I haven't got one myself but I'd be inclined to see if you could shim the internal barrel so that it fires a bit lower, I don't know if it's doable but it's got to be worth a 'shot' (excuse the pun)

Lovely little Junior ( 1963-1973 series 2 model) but not a fan of the Premier MkII. They often suffer from dicky triggers and the piston can gall the bottom of the air cylinder quite badly.Don't fire it a lot and it will probably be ok. There must be a reason that Webley only made them for a year or so. It's a collectors item, not a shooter in my eyes. Like the Mauser, that one is on my 'to buy' list as I owned one in 7.65mm a long time ago. Still got the loading dies for it in a draw somewhere.
Try seeing if you can reseat the barrel as already suggested or raise the foresight using Fimo or similar

Nice mini collection you have there. I had exactly the same problem with my Mauser. The answer was,as already suggested, use smart shot or similar lead BB

Thanks to twodoctors for the usual in depth and well thought out response. I have to confess that, and to my shame, I have very little in the way of mechanical knowledge and ability. So whilst the strip down guides and shimming solutions are probably the way to go I will attempt cutting a deeper rear sight and sacrificing an allen key to raise the front sight. In the longer term I (hopefully longer term) as I will be 70 in 2 weeks I have decided to set myself a target to radically increase my abilities in the world of airgun maintenance, improvement and alteration. Or as my wife will say 'more faffing around'. There are plenty of well put together guides and schematics on this site that will assist me so all I need now is a suitable tool set and a few few sacrificial pistols for disassembly. Any advice on a good all round tool set up gratefully received and if anyone has any old battered pistols (CO2 or spring) lounging in the backs of cupboards and drawers that I can pull to bits, hopefully re-assemble, age and possibly even repair then I will happily buy them. I am not looking for freebies just a sensible fair price to get rid of some of your old defunct kit. At this stage probably not something that is so complex you cannot fix or strip it yourselves. To recap as an end goal I want to be able to replace a spring and various the O'rings, fix leaks, change or replace barrels and cosmetically alter and or age a gun - I will never be going as far as needing a lathe or more intense metal working tools. I am more comfortable at the moment working with wood (not expert) so will also have a bash at making up some cases.

Maintaining our prized collection is all part of the 'joys' of ownership, at least our replicas are a lot easier to maintain and clean than their real steel counterparts. As for doing custom work (ageing and cosmetically altering) well that can prove to be quite troublesome but very rewarding and like you stated there's plenty of great information housed on this forum that should help anyone that's interested. Who knows, maybe you'll end up contributing to the database of knowledge on here too by documenting the work you do, even if it's just changing a seal on a Broomhandle (or better still, adjusting the sights for correct POI to POA) it'll all be very much welcomed by the rest of us guys.
