Yeah, I think that the heat treatment process gives them the perfect colour but it's difficult to show it in a picture, it's one of those times that you have to see it with your own eyes to really realise how well they match the finish of the gun.

One thing I noticed when I whipped the grips off while doing it was that there are only two screws holding the grip on when it was obviously designed with 4, reckon you could lose a lot of creaking if you drilled the frame and retro fitted the other two screws.

The two extra screw holes are used by the S&W 629 (same frame, different finish) to hold the metal framed rubberised grips. But you're right, When I make my replacement wood grips for mine I'll try to utilise all four of the holes to hold the right grip onto the frame.

Am I driving myself crackers? When doing a side by side comparison of the real M29 to my replica, even more things start to pop out as annoyances. The rear sight is too tall, the windage adjustment screw is wrong, and the thing that bugs me on many revolver replicas is the big brass valve head just screaming out to be camouflaged. I have painted it out on my Webley MKVI and the Python I recently sold, but the Dan Wesson 715 and M29 might prove to be more challenging, particularly looking how the real one is done. Or am I just over thinking it all?

Or am I just over thinking it all? Yes I reckon you are Mark. Just use it and enjoy it. Yep, there's a lot of truth in what Andy is saying Mark There are always going to be things we can do and those that we can't, eg.- the top side plate screw is in the wrong position (we can't change that), the bottom side plate screw is the wrong size (we can't do anything about that), the height of the rear sight is too high (if we adjust that the POA vs POI will be well out), the rear sight adjustment screw is the wrong size (which could be changed).....etc.,etc.,etc.. It's working out what can be changed versus what can't be and then being happy with the result, after all the RS owners in the US are always comparing the differences between the successive versions as well (original 29, 29-II, 29-III, etc.) but when all is said and done, they're made for shooting (or in our case 'plinking') and as long as they perform that task it's all good. We can get close to a perfect replica, especially if we make certain cosmetic changes but it will only ever be 'close' and never 'exactly' the same.... unfortunately (But hey ! Don't listen to me, as I've spent the best part of a week fettling slotted screws to satiate my OCD tendencies when it comes to replicas, what do I know....lol)

As soon as I put my post up, I thought "Andy will tell me to just use the darned things"! 😁👍 I will be disguising the valve heads though... 😉

Well I finally got the M2 zinc plated bolts delivered yesterday, so I pickled them to remove the plating, filed the heads down to size (3.25mm) on my drill press (with the aid of a pin vice), cut them to length, then sanded, polished and blued the heads on six of them. I managed to get the opportunity to fit them just now They look great on the S&W-29 and the polished ones look just as good on the S&W-629s too.... Would you consider doing these for others in the future. I would like to purchase 4 if you do.

Would you consider doing these for others in the future. I would like to purchase 4 if you do. You'll need three for each gun and I know that your friend has the 629, so I'd be willing to make a couple of sets (in either a blued or bright finish) for £2 a set plus £2 for recorded delivery Doug. PM me if interested buddy Obviously I'm prepared to do this for any other members that are interested too but I do only have a certain amount of screws. I can do the large (M3x8mm) bolts and the smaller (M2x5mm) bolts together to make a full set in either a blued (S&W-29) or bright (S&W-629) finish. Just send me a PM if you're interested. Wild Bill need not apply ! As you've already got a full set waiting for you as compensation for chauffeuring me to and from the NSS in May
