I gotta say HeadHunter that they do look good flush with the metalwork. I like it. I'd like to get a pair for my M29 but I wonder if its possible to get a black set or a polished set to match the M29's finish. I've just done a few (as a test) that were zinc plated, I pickled them to remove the zinc plating, then sanded and polished them before using a blueing agent on them, the result is very, very dark black finish. Within the next hour or two I'll fit them to the guns and take a picture so you can see them in the gun, if you want I can have a set made up for you and you can pick them up from me when we go to the Northern Gun Show next month buddy.

There are black ones but they're matte finish. www.accu.co.uk/cheese-head-screws/154172-SFE-M3-8-A4-BLCould lacquer them or just use a black nail varnish on ones of any finish. The finish on screws on firearms rarely properly matches the finish of the rest of the gun anyway. They don’t do a replacement screw for the smaller one under the rear sight I suppose. It seems you can’t buy less than 100 of the black unfortunately.

So once they're here I'll check the size and do the same for them (pickle, sand, polish & blue it).

Were you able to source some mild steel M2 screws then? Zinc plated screws are generally mild steel, as no one zinc plates A2/A4 steel screws, so I bought some zinc plated M2x10mm which I'll cut down to the correct size (5mm). I tried the whole process with some zinc plated M3's that were delivered yesterday (pickled, sanded, polished and blued) and they came out just fine and took the chemical blue agent instantly. The M29s need three of them, one just under the rear sight and two under the right grip, might as well replace all three rather than just the one, for the sake of uniformity (and for my OCD tendencies, lol)

Did you have to buy a large quantity? I could only find stainless steel M2's in small quantities...

Wild BillI fitted the chem blue bolts.... In the end I went back to the heat treated versions, as they suit the gun a little bit better. They do have the two-tone effect that the finish of the gun has, so I preferred them over the chemically blued version.... The pictures don't really do it justice (well that and my poor photographic skills, lol), but if you want I can make you set of both and you can choose for yourself buddy.

My screws have arrived.
M2 cheese heads are a bit too big for the smaller screw, I've tried stoning it but I need to remove a lot of material so I'll figure out a decent way to hold them and put them on the belt sander at some point.
Finish was easy to replicate on the M3 cheese heads (which fit perfectly) Take them up to red hot with a kitchen blowtorch on a thin stainless heat sink and allow to air quench, has left them almost a perfect match.
Also, the screw below the cylinder locks the crane up if tightened all the way, had to ease it off a little.

Also, the screw below the cylinder locks the crane up if tightened all the way, had to ease it off a little. I had a go with the brass ones that were delivered yesterday (just as a trial run) and found that the head needed to be reduced down to 3.25mm in diameter to fit into the space where the original screw was to go. I popped mine in a small pin vice, whacked that into my drill press and filed it down to size (obviously it's easier with brass than it would be if it was steel), once checked for size I then cut the threaded section to length (just under 5mm, to give plenty of clearance) and then quickly removed the burrs from it. My M3's all fitted fine into the frame (all four of my guns), I didn't need to back any of them off to allow the crane arm to move freely out from the frame, none of them seemed to impinge on the crane arm. It might just be down to manufacturers tolerances, your's may just be a tad longer than mine. I would have filed some off the length rather than backing the screw out otherwise people will be talking about the fact that you have a 'screw loose' somewhere, lol....

Going to take a bit off it when I fire up the belt sander, it's still in there quote well, only had to back off a half turn. May be that I'm more of a gorilla than you when I tighten stuff up!
