Right guys. I have definitive answer from Airgun Source in Canada. I asked them and they told me they had been inundated with the same questions. I showed them the so called electro plated photos and the ones that look steel grey/nickel. They got back to me today and said they are all the same steel grey colour. It is the lighting that makes them look darker in some photos. Here is one of their in stock display M29's that they took photos of just for me. That was cool of him! Thanks for sharing:) I really like that! Funds aren't coming in latly or I would have one this week:(

It's a shame that we cannot just buy the AS version and save ourselves 40 odd quid, change the barrel over (as I've got a spare 6½" smooth barrel) but it's the forcing cone that will be the difficult part to any conversion as the AS one is sized for a 6mm projectile rather than the 4.5mm sized pellet/BB. It would mean manufacturing a complete new forcing cone, which although wouldn't be difficult for someone with the necessary tools (eh, Modski66 , lol) but the material the original 4.5mm version is made of is a very strong (possibly sintered ?) material. It's a waiting game, waiting for Umarex to get round to finally releasing the 4.5mm BB versions here in the UK....

Yes, the AS forcing cone bore would be an problem, but with a big enough diameter barrel blank to begin with, that could be incorporated as part of the barrel. The only issue could then be wear when the cylinder rotates against it, the original cone is bloody hard...

So the same as the ones we will get here and the same as my Schofield by the looks of it. I'm happy with that. Andy I can assure you they don't look like the Schofield at all it's hard to explain or photograph I couldn't put it any better but it's like looking into a grey brown mirror.

Lots of questions about the color. Perhaps a comparison will help. Daisy is chrome. Crosman's are black paint.

The forcing cone can be made from Delrin/Acetal guys. I have done a couple in the past and they work very well, with the added advantage that they are smoother to rotate as you pull the trigger through. Pete.

The shell loading Colt Python's forcing cone is made of something like delrin and that works just fine.

Definitely looks like a dark finish to me I got the "blued" version, though it is more of a polished black. Umarex shows it available in both blue and nickle but I think the blued is the only one shipping to the USA right now.

My mistake, it was the 629 I was looking at that is available in both finishes. I think when they first showed it off on Instagram they said both would be available.
They show the airsoft in chrome, so I am sure it's coming. I would bet they make them one run at a time, and started with the blue.

My 4.5mm S&W 629-6½" is in a chrome/nickel finish, as far as I know that's the only colour they will come in as they are a copy of the real steel 629, which only comes in a stainless steel finish.
The S&W model 29 should be a darker finish as it's a copy of the real steel S&W 29 in a blued finish.
The prefix '6' on the model numbers designates a stainless steel (silver) finish on real steel S&W guns (eg. 586 = black, 686 = silver).

I don’t think we will see a truly “black” M29. Mine is the polished steel grey which looks black in certain light. I fear the one we see are just the same. It’s only down to the photography that makes them look black.
