Upon refitting everything ( one spring in particular is a headache and required some lateral thinking to get it back in. In this picture it is the long coil spring tat you can see sticking up, out of its channel. This spring returns the silver coloured `hammer cocker` that sets the trigger sear for s/a operation. On retesting the revolver after this fettle, the d/a action was smoother, but not as smooth as it could be, Groups were tighter, but I was still getting the odd flyer, due to trigger snatch, caused by the notchy `break` of the sear/hammer interface. Another srtip was on the cards.

This time, I removed about 80% of the moly grease I had used earlier and instead I applied a fine graphite powder from a `puffer` tube, that I had lying around. No idea where it came from , it has been used occasionally for about 15 years. Every sliding part was dusted with the graphite powder on all sides, I also paid particular attention to the unusual hammer cocking/rotating piece and its actuating lug on the side of the rotary hammer....polishing the mating surfaces, then lubing with the graphite powder. You see that little oblong lug sticking out from the hammer, by my thumb nail. ... That is the part that is pushed on by a sliding arm in the trigger group to rotate and cock the rotary hammer. By polishing this small lug ( using a fine carborundum stick), and shortening the contact side by approx 3 thou of an inch, I got the trigger to trip the sear a fraction earlier in the d/a cycle. Thus turning the d/a trigger action into one very smooth action. All back together and WOW ! what a difference. The trigger action is now so smooth I can get 1"-1.5" groups every time...this was in a dim workshop with artificial light, and don`t forget this has a smooth bored barrel. So I am now very happy with the Chiappa Rhino and fitting a rifled varrel will now be worth the expenditure. So that will be next on the cards. Thank you for following this thread. If anyone would like full sized images of the inner workings I can send them by email etc. Pete.

Your a brave man, I wouldn’t dare try to work on the Rhino. Excellent write up.

Well done Pete ! Although I only stripped mine down and gave it a full clean and some descent lubrication I noticed quite an improvement too. Funny enough I was shooting mine today and noticed (again) that the DA is getting smoother and smoother as time and use progress. Even the SA didn't seem as bad as it was ! I remember the 'headache' that the cocking hammer gave me when I put it all back together, it was an absolute nightmare until I realised how they actually must of done it, after that it was easy enough but it was a steep learning curve, lol. I do actually remember fettling some of the interfaces too as they're seems to be a lot going on in that trigger group but I didn't dare touch the sear for fear of going too bloody far (I know, chicken sh*t, lol) and creating a very expensive paper weight. But well done buddy

Thanks Pete.
I look forward to finding a preloved one at a good price in the next year or two...

Nice to see someone can sort that pistol out. Shame the manufacturer can't!

Thanks, guys. I forgot to mention that now the s/a pull has reduced enough so that I can actually fire it with one hand now, it's still too stiff to be accurate in s/a but the d/a is now so good that I don't need it. Pete.

She's a lovely gun ( beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, lol) with a easily staged DA trigger, a well balanced and superbly point-able revolver.

So, yes this revolver isn`t perfect out of the box ( are any guns ? ), but the pistol is worth the effort, as it feels and looks terrific , and is a very capable shooter. Pete.

So.... As I have been enjoying shooting my latest purchases lately...namely the M1 carbine and the Glock 16 dual ammo...both cracking replicas to shoot....I thought I would have a plink with my Chiappa Rhino again. Thus revolver just gets better each time I shoot it. The D/A trigger pull us now smooth and light, and I can actually shoot 1" groups now ,as long as I concentrate. So I would advise you that if you like the look of these ( not everyone does), get one and with time it will get better. Pete.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's noticed that the Rhino wears in quite quickly with some regular use.

I'm waiting for them to drop to the £130 mark... there is/was one going for £175 recently on GT.

By the time they get down to £130, all the wearing in will have happened, and they will all be worn out.
