Today i have received a very nice shiny revolver ..... i have been meaning to get one of these for a while and i must say i wasn't disappointed with it ... It is in fantastic condition so really happy with it ... OK, the grips are the usual thin plastic items but they do look pretty smart, the finish on the rest of this is lovely ... im on the lookout for some wood grips but will back fill these and do a bit of cosmetics on them for now .... My very big thanks to James (Doyley83) for selling this to me and to the forum , another one ticked off my list ..... now saving up for a Thompson always one more lol

When you find someone selling wooden grips for the M29, let us all know. 😜

Lovely looking revolvers. And yes, if you find some one selling or making real wood grips let me know too.

There's a guy on YT that's been fitting a real wood set of S&W grips to his Umarex m29 (started life as the 'Trust Me' m29 gun), he's done quite a few videos on how he got on and here's the latest one....
I should point out before you all get excited that he purchased a brand new set of wood grips and had to chop up the frame from another m29 to change the position of the CO2 tightening screw as the grips (on the RS version) are shorter than the Umarex grips. He also had to grind the bottom of the grips to get them to fit inside the real wood grips.
He's done a load of videos on the whole process which I have been eagerly following but the thought of grinding out the bottom of the frame is where I draw the line, well that and sacrificing a whole another gun just for parts to complete the project seems A) Overly expensive and B) scary as fuk ! But hey it's good to see someone take the plunge and actually have a go at it.

They look nice, but that’s a lot of work, and filling in the area where the tabs use to locate is never going to be that satisfactory I don’t think.

Interesting, but too far for me too.
Why couldn't Umarex have done the old style grips, they look so much better.

It's an interesting series of videos to watch, notably for those 'oh my God' moments like when he grinds the bottom part of the grip frame off to accommodate the new real wood grips. Certainly not something that I would have done myself to my gun just for the sake of fitting a set of real wood grips to a replica but hey ! We're all different.
As for the style of grips, those classic ones do leave the frame holes open and do look unsightly, even if you do manage to fill them properly and then colour match them to the rest of the frame they are still going to be 'obvious' on a close inspection. I would have gone for the latter style grips just to cover the frame holes but they still wouldn't have fit the gun properly and you're back to chopping away at the replica frame to get them to fit.
Not something that I would have done but I learnt a lot from watching the videos though, seems the only way to get a proper fitting replacement set is to make them yourself from scratch.

Yeah I agree. No way am I chopping any metal off my M29. Like I have stated previously though, I am more than happy with the standard grips. Mine are obviously filled with putty though and feel solid. And I think they are the best looking OEM grips Umarex have done on a pistol.

But a screw head even if it was glued in makes it twice as nice

I even have the right size screw head but if I was going to do it, I wanted to do it properly with some fake brass or stainless escutcheons like the real thing.

I would have liked to have had the gun (m29s) come with the original (series one) shaped grips as those are the ones that Inspector Callahan had on his gun but as Wild Bill quite rightfully states these are a bloody good copy of the later 29s with the newer style of grips.
