Rodger Moore advertising his Christmas jumper in the 1950s was an image I often aspired to as a kid despite most of my own jumpers being hand me downs and having odd buttons and stretched out bingo wings. Nonetheless as an adult I did feel quite dashing wearing my new DeSantis Speed Holster for Beretta 92 under my coat this morning and decided to write a whole blog because of it.
On the DeSantis website the tag line for this holster is ‘concealment perfected’ - well my Mrs knew what I was up to the moment I walked down the stairs so I’m not so sure about that.
The Speed holster is designed to meet the needs of plainclothes professionals in tense environments and middle aged men who like plinkin' targets in their back gardens, and while I don’t fit into the former, I certainly fit into the latter.
This holster has a draw smoother than the stuff Dwain sells three doors down and would probably give you the edge over Scaramanga and his golden gun and Oddjob and his flying hat.
I had hoped my existing Beretta A1 holster would double up for both pistols, unfortunately the 92 has a bigger butt and I can’t fasten the thumb-break. Besides, I never liked wearing other peoples clothing so thought it best to buy the 92 its own leathers instead of asking it to share.
This holster is crafted by people who clearly know what they are doing - and it fits the gun a lot better than the clothes my mum used to knit for my Action Man - I could skip with the length of those arms.
Belt slots are 1 3/4" wide. Some models with two belt slots are without the tension device, it wont matter because after spending £80 quid on this holster, you’ll feel tense enough.
A good leather belt is essential to hold the weight of a holstered Umarex Beretta, saving a few pennies here risks a catastrophic snap dropping your gun to the ground and taking your pants along with it.
Thoughts thoughts final thoughts!
I like this gun and holster combo’ for the colder weather - it keeps the gun warm during tea breaks and setting up new targets, and feels secure and well positioned for an easy draw. The rest of my holsters have thumb break retention, apart from the Glock, and that feels more like a quick grope in the under-crackers with it being inside the waistband appendix draw, rather than having the finesse and class of the Beretta 92’s coat swinging hip draw. I’m having so much fun with it and use a shot timing app to help me along with my double action one shot target practice.
Being the only pellet firer I currently own, the Beretta 92 also has the dubious honour of being the only CO2 pistol in my collection allowed use on my gun club’s firing range. Barring Covid lockdowns and refurbishments, I might be able to book it in sometime next summer, until then, thank goodness I have a garden!
The added bonus is the gun fits inside the holster inside the supplied Umarex storage case - just like a Russian doll.
