I know I’m late to the parade on this one, but they are great looking revolvers. They only had the ivory grip version in solware the other day or I’d have bought one. They’re high up on the list now I finally have a rhino

Can't knock the looks and the build quality but I don't really enjoy shooting mine as the balance feels wrong

I started a trend with the steel grey with wood effect grips I reckon. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) It does look the best though. And the aged version does look good with the ivory grips. ![](https://i.imgur.com/YMMBGYr.jpg)

Can't knock the looks and the build quality but I don't really enjoy shooting mine as the balance feels wrong The only thing that I dislike about the Schofield (and it's not a deal breaker) is when you compare it to the Colt SAA and the Remington 1875, which both have a really beautiful cocking action sound, the Schofield feels just so 'flat' and a bit 'meh' by comparison. I just wish that they had a better action to them, they're wonderfully accurate and quite powerful (for a CO2 replica) handgun but they deserve a better a much better cocking sound than just 'clunk' and 'thwack' ! Like I said, it's not a deal breaker but I feel that they could of been a bit more engaging, sometimes it's the little things that can make all the difference and I do feel that the Schofield lacks that certain something, it's a bit 'nit picking' I know but once you've fired the Colt SAA and the Remington 1875 and then go to the Schofield you'll notice that there's something missing, it's difficult to describe exactly what but it's definitely missing something. As soon as you cock the hammer on either the Colt or the Remington you start getting that stupid grin on your face, the sound of the hammer cocking sets the moment perfectly, it's engaging, it's enjoyable and you can't wait to pull the trigger and get the pellet on it's way just so you can cock the gun and hear that wonderful sound again ! The Schofield doesn't have that moment, it's dull and cold, there's no rise of anticipation before the shot, like I said it's a bit 'meh'.... ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Perhaps it’s because Samuel was designing a pistol for dandies and show-offs whereas Major Schofield wanted something more solid, robust, dependable and quicker to reload.

Perhaps it’s because Samuel was designing a pistol for dandies and show-offs whereas Major Schofield wanted something more solid, robust, dependable and quicker to reload. Yeah, the US Military field trials for the Colt SAA, S&W Schofield and the Remington had a different result after they extensively tested all three of them......The Colt came out tops, the Remington second and the S&W came third in a three horse race (so last really). So much for it (the Colt) being a 'Dandy' pistol, lol. It out shot, out performed, proved more reliable than either of the other two revolvers in the barrage of extensively arduous tests that were performed on it in the trial. In fact, the Schofield failed to finish all the tests because it refused to fire or even eject the shells, with it's own cartridges it lacked the range and bullet weight of the Colt .45 that the US Army ultimately preferred, in fact they were so enamoured with the SAA that they asked Colonel Colt to make a 7½" version (commonly known as the 'Cavalry' version) which they ordered 1000's of, two for every Cavalry man, one on either side of the saddle, where they are often referred to as 'Horse pistols' (deemed too big to be carried in a hip holster). So the Schofield was neither "Solid, robust or dependable" and it really didn't matter how quick it was to reload if the hinge and top strap lock seize closed and you can't reload it anyway (as happened in the trials !). Romanticised ? They may well have been, but commonly referred to as the 'Peacemaker' for good reason, after all is said and done," They're the gun that won the west" ! But to use your words, the Colt SAA was proven (in the field tests) to be 'solid, robust & dependable' plus it was also 'accurate and powerful' as well. The Colt SAA is still made today, I don't think S&W have made a Schofield (or even a no.3 pistol) in well over 100 years. Ruger's first ever handgun was their version of the Colt SAA back in the 1950's, and copies of the gun are still made today by numerous companies around the world which attest to it's popularity and the reliability of the original design nearly 150 years after it's original conception. What other guns do you think will still be made 150 years after they're release ? Not many, if any at all. The iconic status of the Colt SAA is now legendary, it's a piece of history in your hand, .45 cartridges are still readily available for it, in fact it's made in so many calibres now it's bewildering, everything from .22 all the way up to the .44 magnum ! I'm shocked that you ( CaptDAR), with your extensive Colt SAA collection, would belittle it in favour of the Schofield ! Or are we about to see your fine collection of various Peacemakers in the sales section ? If so, there's a couple of yours that I wouldn't mind, I'll swap you a very fine Schofield if you're interested, lol ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) But in all seriousness, you can't tell me that every time you've cocked the hammer back on the Schofield you didn't wish that it had a more authentic ratchety sound to it ? I know I do !

Shaun. I could be tempted to swap my pellet version Colt SAA for your Schofield if it's the aged version. ![](https://i.imgur.com/7gLv9hn.jpg)
