I have got an old itch that I can't seem to be able to scratch.
My first replica revolver was a shiny Dan Wesson snub nose model, but I never really liked the proportions of it. Some years later and I have had and moved on a Gamo R77 snubbie, loved the proportions, but the cylinder back end just looked too wierd. I still have that vague hankering for the small form factor, but can't see anything that is close enough to the 'detective special' that makes me want to put my hand in my pocket.
Things I have considered include the 715, the metal Colt Python, the M29, and even the plastic fantastic Python. The last one is the closest in terms of looks, but is just TOO plastic.
Not hung up on it being a shell loader, but that would be nice, but I would like it to fire 0.177 pellets.
What suggestions has the collective forum mind got that would scratch my itch?

Thanks for the reply, the M29 is a bit on the big side, and the Python is expensive as it is bundled with a leather holster that I have no interest in.

The DW715 snub nosed revolver gets my vote, no surprise there I suppose..... The little snub nosed shell loading Colt Python (in silver) is next though, KWC made them in the right colour (silver) whereas the Umarex version comes in just black but they are a lovely small package. Both of them are much smaller in the hand than the S&W m29 snubbie, which is designed to be handled by a 'big guy' with big hands, a snubbie for a giant, lol

Thanks Shaun, I just can't find the love for the short 715, or the metal Python. The only one I can find with the right shape is the plastic Python, but then the grips are a bit on the chunky side to be the 'detective special'.
Maybe what I seek doesn't exist... 😕

I’ve a crosman SNR357 which is pellet, not so accurate beyond the usual 6m but gives that size and feel. It’s a wingun chassis like the python, gamo r77 etc.

I had exactly the same itch on coming back to the hobby this time. You may have heard me saying something on the matter 😀 I just couldn’t find anything that fitted that S&W/Colt shaped hole. I posted a thread on rifraf with the results. Tanaka S&W M60.
I tried the Umarex Colt snubby and it was pretty dire - apologies to their fans. Mine rattled and the ejector rod kept unscrewing. Like you I haven’t really seen anything with the right proportion/grip style.
Following your journey with interest.

moonbuns - I followed your journey with interest, so it is partly your fault that this itch has surfaced! Maybe I will end up going down the same route as you...

I’ve been thinking about this and my previous comments not withstanding I’d give the Python another go (willing to accept I had a poor example) if an original wood grip could be made to fit/custom made. The modern ‘tactical’ grips get on my nerves, mainly aesthetics I think.
It’s right on the later period of what I’m interested in but it could work?
