You remember the Gamo PT-80, Thought I'd have a go at sorting it out, I've had the Beretta in bits so how hard can it be? My other hobby is watch repair so springs and things are not a problem easier in fact as they much bigger. Ordered a seal for the Co2 compartment from Chambers. Once I had a look the seal was completely perished, I'm guessing this has been stored with a Co2 in it. Most of the screws were rusty too! and once I got the two halves apart carefully. Oh my lord looks likes someone has gone mad with the WD40. The Co2 seal just fell apart. It's absolutely swimming in oil . Just look at the pictures. If I had more confidence in getting this lot back together I'd detail strip it and degrease it then re-grease with moly and silicone greases as needed. A brief rant - REPEAT AFTER ME WD40 IS NOT LUBRICANT! WD-40 is water repellent great for bike chains and stuck screws not oiling guns or watches (Yes I've seen it) Channeling my inner Mark Novak with the blue paper! So once the chamber was out I greased the seal and pushed it back in place without removing the copper ring. All good now to reassemble the it. I say this its not for the feint of heart, a fair bit of swearing and fiddling and its back together. That was an arse I shall not take that one apart again. shots taken at 2.5M in my office, I'll give it a test at 10m tomorrow in the garden. Kind Regards, Ian

It's amazing how many people don't know that the WD in WD40 stands for 'Water Dispersent' ! The first time I ever used WD40 was to spray it into the points under the distributor cap to flush the water out so my old car would run on wintry mornings....yeah, I know, showing my age....that was when cars had points rather than electrical controlled ignition through an onboard computer, dear God I'm old, lol.

I would have my Cortina MkIII 2000E back any day. Lovely Pinto engine , a dream to work on. Mine ran like a dream too, just sold all my tuning gear on the Bay recently. Get the timing and dwell spot-on and it ran so smoothly. Wish I'd kept all my 70's cars , Capri MkI, Capri MkII, Triumph Spitfire, Mini van etc ,etc ....worth a fortune now.

Have you been binge-watching 'Bangers and Cash'? 😜 I had a Capri Mk2.....1600s in white and three Mk.4 Spitfires over the years. What would have probably been worth the most nowadays, was my Lotus Europa Twin-Cam JPS, a 1973 model I bought in 1975 for £1750. Alongside it in the showroom was a 1972 Ferrari (well Fiat really!) Dino, priced at just £1950! I was tempted by that, but Ferrari reliability and service costs were prohibitive even then. Actually, the Europa didn't fare that much better in the reliability stakes. The acronym : Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, certainly applied to my particular car! My last 'sports car,' was actually a company car......a Panther Lima! Didn't have that long, due to my wife becoming pregnant with our 1st child. Had to go to my boss and plead with him to change the car for something more family friendly. Ended up with a Cavalier CD! Such is life......

Such is life...... Lotus Europa was my dream car until I sat in one, made my mates Elan feel huge! and how many Camshafts did your Twin Cam have? They were a bit claustrophobic inside, must admit! During my (relatively short!) period of ownership, I didn't need the twin cams. replaced, but I did have a couple of interesting (!) experiences. The first was when the gear stick parted company with its linkage at traffic lights, just after I selected 1st gear. Had to limp along in that gear for a couple of miles, back to the supplying garage. The second major one, was that on the motorway, noticing a significant drop in power, I pulled over to the hard shoulder to investigate. Upon opening the engine cover, I was somewhat surprised to notice that a large amount of engine oil had come up through the 'well' in the cam cover and was level with the tops of the spark plugs! A more regular 'quirk,' was the fact that in frosty weather and the car being un-garaged, the only way that I could get it to start, was to heat the spark plugs under the grill of our cooker, before attempting ignition. I'd bought this car in the November, just prior to starting a new job, which was a 50 mile drive away. Over the first few, wintry weeks in that new job, I was late/absent so often due to this car, that my new boss told me that either the car went or I did. Bye, bye Europa, I'm afraid.....!

I collect models of the cars I’ve owned since my first in 1969. Here are some of them.

@ guitarman, that was a trick question about the cams, very few people know that the Lotus Twincam actually had 3 camshafts

I bought a 1976 TR7 ( I remember the reg. was MCC 773R) in the same red back in 1978 and one of my favourite cars, a silver Mini Mayfair back in 1990 when I was 'between' company cars.
