This is very poor manufacturing / tolerance issue, and should not be happening on a pistol costing near £200. I have noticed a lot of sloppy actions and working parts on a variety of replicas coming through my workshop of late. It seems to be getting more common. My advice is ... if buying a replica, don`t buy the latest release until others have bought and tested it for a few months. Recently I had two Umarex Race Guns in with malfunctions that could nor be fixed, as they were caused by tolerance and cheap parts issues ..... both were new guns. Pete. Tbh, I totally agree with what you're saying but if they were made of better quality components like steel we'd have the papers bleeting on about how they could be converted to fire live ammunition and then our hobby would quickly be made illegal by our nanny state govt. here in the UK (other nanny states are available, lol). As for the price....well that's down to what the market will allow and as we cannot have handguns (without the God awful coat hanger attachment and a carbine size lengthened barrel) we do get well and truly 'shafted' by all involved, but as Wild Bill states "I still love them" despite all these faults. As for waiting for others to buy them, test them out and review them, well that's what we are here for and anyway ! Who's going to wait that long when they offer us a new shell loading replica CO2 revolver, not me ! That's for certain..... Me ? I love 'em.....enuff sed

I am not advocating steel parts Shaun. There are different qualities of alloy parts and some of the recent releases have the hardness of cheese. The original Umarex 4 kings , have quality alloy parts and most of them made 20 years ago are still giving sterling service. I could write a book about the dross that comes into my workshop ..... shocking and getting worse imho. Pete.

I actually think the quality of my M29 is outstanding for a couple of hundred quid. It shoots great and I have zero problems with it. In fact the only problems I have ever had with a co2 replica pistol is with the KWC 1911 types. And I love them too. I do agree that they are built to a price and that the manufacturers are taking the pith with a captive audience though.

Here`s an example .... umarex S&W M629, came in this week, supposedly leaking.... it was but.... Now it can only happen by overtightening the piercing screw, but you would think that the thread woud stip first. I can only assume that the alloy used was porous/ recycled/ full of slag not good. Pete.

That one could be down to the design; not enough material in a high stress area, possibly with a sharp corner acting as a stress raiser.
It's just like the Liberty Ships and the Comet airliner.
But on a smaller scale with far fewer fatalities...

As bad as these replica airguns are made, I still love them. Because I remember a time when we had nothing like them. Especially shell loading revolvers but also including replica ww2 guns etc. I am glad we have them.

I agree. Really glad we have them, shooting a single shot pistol just isn't as much fun after a multi shot. I do think that the Webley MK6 seems more solidly made than any of the others.

I defer to you on this subject especially when considering your own experience(s) and history in the trade.

I own lots of these modern replicas and love them. My point was that newer models, say released in the last year or so, seem to have declined in quality/ fit/ finish from previous offerings. This could be due to the term `shrinkflation`, which refers to say a chocolate bar, which although hasn`t gone up in price has shrunk in size. So we may be getting the same price , but corners are being cut during manufacture. Just be careful out there.
p.s. I am repairing on average 6 co2 replics per week. Mostly leaks, but some more serious problems. To be fair, a lot of damage is caused by owner misuse or negligence . I think some customers in dealers shops need to undergo an I.Q. / suitability test before being sold any kind of gun.!!!!
Pete.

I hope they don't bring in an IQ test prior to buying a CO2 replica as I would have NONE.....
