For me the 1911 Although the P08 Luger is the more ergonomic of the two the 1911 just has something about it that you just got to love also over the years the 1911 has been adapted to suit either old school or more modern tactical preferences .

I also tend to lean towards the 1911. Mainly because it has a higher shot count per bulb and the mechanism is simple. My PO8 has gone wrong on two occasions.

A hard call having owned and shot both back in the halcyon days of real firearms shooting. Both are the absolute icons of automatics and have survived throughout the years whilst being superb looking guns. Going back to my cartridge shooting days I would have to say that the Luger was a bit more fussy over loads and slightly more likely to suffer from jams.
To be fair with the the CO2's I have had no problems with either and both seem equally accurate.
So based on my cartridge days and by a small margin the Colt wins.

Simply because the Colt 1911 is my favorite pistol

That’s a bit like “ what’s my favourite child “ I’d have to toss a two headed coin and see what one wins. Both iconic. I love the simplicity of the Colt and equally the quirkiness of the Luger. I suppose it I was going to keep my pistol clean and serviced and use it in perfect condition during a war then it’s the Luger, but, if I’m crawling in the mud, or in the rain of the jungle, lost in a desert sandstorm and I’m relying on my gun to fire and save me then it would be the 1911.

I've always been a revolver type of guy but when I first got hold of a 1911 (thrown in with a 2nd hand deal for my very first Dan Wesson 715) I was all," I'll just sell it on", then I had to run a CO2 through it just to make sure it was working prior to selling it and I fell in love with the bloody thing right there and then, the rest (as they say) is history, I still own it to this day, regularly shoot it and enjoy ownership tremendously. I did get hold of a broken Luger a few years back, repaired it, aged it, got a period leather holster, a proper Luger tool and a spare magazine, I loved the quirkiness of the toggle-top action and it felt really good in the hand but I sold it a year or so ago, so that speaks volumes really...... I do love it but I also love revolvers far more and if given the opportunity I always seem to reach for a revolver but on the odd occasion that I do fancy a bit of auto fun it's either the 1911, a PT-92, a P-365 or my SIG P-226S. So to answer your question it's a 1911 for me, the ol' slab-sides is a fun, reliable and iconic CO2 replica, one that I think that EVERY CO2 replica enthusiast should have in their collection This is my 1911, there are many like it but this one is mine....(lol) This is another one of my old 1911s, I did a major makeover and modification to it, in fact Doyley83 is actually selling it at the moment on his list of goodies. A beautiful gun with a unique look to it.

The unique blowback toggle action of the PO8 edges it for me. I guess the sensible thing to do is to have both and avoid the issue altogether. Brian

I d like to say they’ve both got their merits and are iconic for the reasons we all know but… when I had a big clear out several years ago it was the 1911 that stayed and the Luger that went.
With much reluctance and without prejudice, I think I answered the question.

I loved the P08 when I had it, such a great replica, but I kept reading many horror stories of them becoming paperweights due to the tiny fragile parts of the mechanism failing beyond repair. It got moved on quickly. I swore that I would not fall into the 1911 trap - I have got two of them now...

Oh wow that’s hard...
I really want to put the PO8, I’ve always wanted to own a working one, had many cap guns as a child, so to own one that looks the part with the action that looks very similar to the real thing was beyond my expectations.
But the 1911 is just simple and fun to shoot

The toggle action of the P08 has always intrigued me back in the days. Now that I get to play with one, albeit in air gun form, does put a smile on my face.
1911, another iconic pistol. I have one in LBP version and that shoots well, and won a few postal comps with that thing. In air gun form, the non-adjustable sights is the only thing that bugs me.
But then you can't adjust the sights on the P08 air pistol either!
I'll vote P08, just to try and balance things out here...

I would vote for the P08 even though my Umarex version is now a paperweight after deciding it didn't like to only fire one shot at a time. The P08 is very recognisable and a lot of people would know a "Luger" if they spotted one in a film. A pity it is mainly associated with Nazis in many people minds. My daughter accused me of having " a very Nazi pistol" when I got mine, I did explain that it pre-dated the Nazis by about 25 years. Umarex Legends P08 by Thorness, on Flickr Cheers Don
