I enjoy my M1A a great deal, and it shoots quite accurately. The only thing that bothers me about it is the BOING effect of the spring. Has anyone had success in quietening the spring? Is there a sleeve or liner that will quieten it? My other [more expensive] springers fire with a sort of thud, not the rattly spring sound. Any advice on this? TIA JD

I suspect it would need a strip-down and a custom spring guide making from Delrin to cure the boing.

I stripped mine down and merely re-greased the spring etc. Mine was very dry. It shoots very well now with a good bit of recoil and hardly any 'boing'.

You reckon the original guide is steel? If so that would go a long way to explaining it. I have a few delrin rods here, I could chuck one up and see what I can make. Hey, maybe I could lose a few ounces in the process, that would be a bonus! Its a darned heavy rifle.
Also, Bill, when you grease it up, are you just greasing the inside of the coils in the guide area, on a relaxed spring, or the whole spring? I have a tube of heavy sticky Wurth 5th wheel grease here that might do the trick.

I'm going to check to see if there is room for a sleeve in the piston.
