This will probably be my second last gun for a while (one more coming this week ).
I shoot mainly Gallery Rifle. I have shot in 2 practical pistol matches before. Came second last on my first go, and last on my second go. It was just for a bit of fun, and fun it was! I didn't have the right rig like my fellow competitors. Plus they have been doing it for years.
Anyway, I know a bit about practical pistol / IPSC style shooting. I did post about this pistol on offer in London, but alas it's lockdown and I don't know when I will be visiting London next. Then this little beauty popped up on GunTrader. Snapped it up immediately.
Arrived today.
You might want to watch Eric Grauffel's rundown on the pistol, and see how he manage with the airsoft version.
And a quick intro to IPSC style shooting. Check the video from 11:30
IPSC Demo run by Eric Grauffel
So this is based on the CZ75. The gun is quite heavy. 1344g plus the red dot, CO2 and BBs according to the box. A bit too hefty for smaller kids, but feels nice in the hand.
I think it looks amazing.
It has slide lock open on last round since it is a BB gun. Chamber is visible for safety check as per real gun.
The other detail I like is the fake barrel locking up on slide open.
If you look at the schematics, you'll realise that it is just for show. The barrel shroud is cone shape and just made to look like it is locked up. Nice detail.
It says .177 at the breech end of the barrel instead of .45ACP / 9mm or whatever the real thing is chambered in.
There is no option of putting an iron sight back in. The rear sight cut out is square, not dovetail or Novak. You might want the Limited Custom version if you need iron sight.
Field strippable.
According to Eric, you can interchange parts from the real gun with this. Not that you want to, as the parts will cost more than the gun itself, but it is an option.
The grip plate is metal. I don't think putting a plain wooden grip on it will make it look any better, especially without checkering. A different colour grip maybe?
The magwell is nice. I wish I have them on my LBPs.
Full size magazine. A real heavy weight. I don't know which other gun it is compatible with. And I can't seem to find anyone selling spares in the UK.
Trigger. It's good, but not perfect. Between 2.75 to 3lb which is light enough for action shooting, but not too light that it makes it dangerous in less experienced hands (the trigger on my real Ruger 10/22 is 0.75lb and not everyone can "handle" it). The pull length can be shorter if I'm honest, especially for a race gun (again I'm not an IPSC style shooter), but not a major issue. The biggest problem I have with it is the reset. I had to release it completely before it resets. No, I can't shoot like Eric in the above video, but the long reset certainly doesn't help.
So how does it shoot? From 5m, 10 shots. Ignore the shot on the 2 ring. I was just saving paper!
Dust Devil
It will cycle. In the mid and end of the CO2 life, there were some issue with slide locking back forward. I think this is related to the odd shape of the dust devil BBs. But it will shoot it, and probably does it better than my Mauser and P08.
Umarex Steel BB
Not a bad group considering I wasn't trying especially hard. Some of the "stray shots" were definitely me.
H&N Excite Copper
Groups as well as the steel, only safer for reactive target which is what this gun is designed for.
(I noticed afterwards that my sight mount was slightly wobbly, which could have affected the groupings)
And out of interest, this is what is collected at the end of the session.
Finally, just because you could, doesn't me you should!
This is fast becoming my favourite gun in my collection. Accurate enough for plinking / reactive target. Feels almost like a real gun. The blowback can be heavier, considering the calibre the real one shoots, but that would consume more CO2. As it is I can shoot about 3 mags (54 shots) before it stops cycling properly.
The sight mount can be further disassembled, but I'm not sure what you can put on there in its place.
[edit] for C-More sights!
For what I paid for it, a bloody bargain and definitely no regret. Just simply amazing (apart from the trigger reset issue).
Still for sale at £80 here.
