I was shooting my M1A this afternoon. I love this heavy old pig of a gun, but I really can't abide the BOING the spring makes as it shoots. Has anyone been able to reduce or eliminate that nasty sound so that it sounds more like a thud?
thanks, JD

I'm quite lucky with mine. All I have done is re-grease the spring, but mine makes a nice thud rather than a boing. To really quieten it down it would need a TinBum tuning kit with new guide and spring. But I don't know if he does one for this air rifle yet. www.airrifletuning.com/

Hmmm... what sort of grease did you use on yours? I have some very thick and tacky Wurth's fifth wheel grease; would that be too thick? I surely need to do something. I'll have a look inside and see if I can make a new guide out of delrin rod maybe.

Today I stripped it down and inspected it. The spring was pretty much dry, just a light oiling on it. I cleaned it off, and used the Wurth's grease on it. It is actually manufactured for impact service, and is really sticky. I use it in the bevel drive rear end on my Guzzi. Put the M1A all back together: no more boing!! Just a nice THUD. Thanks Wild Bill for your advice!

WB, Do you happen to have a copy of the schematic for the M1A? I have been looking for one on the web, and no luck. I thought there might be one on the RAF technical page, but no luck there either.
cheers, JD
