I had always fancied some bakelite brown grips for my blued Mak 654 and came across a set for what seemed like a cheap price of £18 from Protek Supplies. They arrived and to my surprise, they were not the bakelite version just the standard brown plastic grips. I was a bit pissed off at this as they were advertised as bakelite clearly in the description on the website. I enquired about this and they apologised and offered for me to return them for a refund (fair play). After fitting them though, I decided I quite liked them and am therefore keeping them Curious to see what the bakelite ones are like, I managed to source some from this UK company - www.rusmilitary.com/html/airgun_mp654K.htm. Rather amusingly, the guy who seems to run it calls himself Boris DaBlade which I found hilarious as a fan of the film Snatch. They arrived today, and I have to say these look and feel really nice on the pistol They were a touch more expensive at £35 but these are original grips off a proper Mak so I am not too concerned with the price

I thought that £18 was a bit cheap for a good set of bakelite grips, £35 sounds about right. Glad you got them sorted in the end.

Yes, that is why I went for them as the image on the site looked spot on as did the description. I think if anyone is buying from Protek it might be worth giving them a bell to confirm beforehand especially on the used stuff.

They look good James, but I'll be honest with ya, I prefer the Brown plastic ones on your Baikal.

If you ages the Makarov it would look even better.

Time for a gratuitous bakelite Grip Makarov pic. These 2 represent first to last models - one is a very early 1999 Gen 1 and the other a 2020 Gen 5. The newer bakelite grips (front) have a finer finish than the earlier ones.

I do like a nice Makarov. Some beauts here. Had two Baikals myself once. A 2000 Gen 1 and a later Gen 4. They are superb replicas but not that fun to shoot/use for plinking compared to a Gletcher/KWC Blowback Mak in my opinion. I have the brown grips on my current Mak but I do like the wrap around grips that I had on my Baikal Maks.
