Something that may be of interest to you revolver nuts - the Tanaka Colt .357 Python 6mm Airsoft. A very accurate replica which operates in an unusual way. I’ve based the following description from information in their literature: Tanaka owns the patents for the PEGASEUS System This consists of a stationary gas reservoir within the rotating cylinder, with a single firing valve that is always lined up with the barrel. The bb's are loaded into the front of the rotating cylinder, and a cutout in the back of one of the fake shells imprinted into the back allows access to the fill valve for gas. Because their system puts the entire firing and storage system into the cylinder, Tanaka's revolvers are very similar in parts and function to the real guns. In general, Tanaka revolvers consist of a milled aluminum frame (including cylinder, frame, and grip), an ABS plastic outer barrel with a bronze inner, and plastic or rubber grips. Since the internals are fairly similar to the revolvers they are mimicking, many models can be fitted with grips and other parts made for the real gun. One of the pictures below shows the similarity between the Tanaka and the real thing in terms of trigger mechanism. It’s a little on the light side at 900gms but the finish is really lovely and as well as firing .20gm bb’s at about 300fps it’s a beautiful display piece. Need to find some genuine wood colt grips now!

That does look lovely and the cylinder gas reservoir system looks really interesting, does it fire six or only five shots at a time as one of the 'faux' cartridge ends is the gas fill point ? As for the real wood stocks for it, well go here.... www.mg-props.co.uk/grips.htmAt around £53 they aren't cheap but they would look really great on the gun Just a shame about the ABS outer barrel, seems that if you're going to go that far for realism why not go that extra yard and have a metal barrel too ! But hey ! It looks proportionally better than the Umarex shell loading versions.

Apparently the ABS is something to do with Japanese regulations about the amount of metal that can be used in the manufacture of a replica gun. I understand that it's mixed with an alloy powder so it still feels pretty hard and cold to the touch. It actually fires 12 rounds (!) as the rotating outer cylinder re-loads as it passes the bb storage tube in the non-rotating inner cylinder. Clear as mud! Thanks for the grips link - more money I'd like to get my hands on this one, but they are very hard to find like most gas airsoft guns these days.

I always wanted a Tanaka police positive when I was skirmishing but one coming up and me having money never seemed to meet up.

There is no doubt that the Japanese do make the most realistic looking replicas, its such a shame about the weight factor, but I do still love them all... Tanaka, Marushin and not forgetting Tokyo Marui.

Unfortunately MG Props have no grips for the Python and aren't expecting any in the near future (what the hell is going on in this country ) so I have found a set of used Pachmayr Presentation Grips. I think they look pretty good.
