I've changed the RIF-RAF section description to include AEGs for better clarity.

I’ve only got into AS since my diagnosis in February 2021. Reason being that I will lose my AWC in the foreseeable future and hence will not be able to own AW. As I would not want to be totally devoid of shooting then ownership of AS will be my saviour. Never yet considered AEG but I might well when I’m finally forced to part with my AWs. Sorry to hear that, for me airsoft provided a similar avenue as when I first met her, my wife (to be) was a little anti-gun following "a bad experience" when she worked for a bank. Although not initially thrilled about my new toy she put up with it and while I wouldn't say even now that she trully loves them she fully accepts them and has bought me more than one or two. I think if my only options had been airgun I'd never have got her over the first hurdle.
At some point in the (hopefully distant) future I'd advocate for an airsoft assault rifle for you, gas or electric, running at airsoft power levels so you can go full auto if you want. Maybe pick up a shotgun, one of the ones that fires multiple BBs a time. Add a pistol, et voila - you're set up for a bit of three gun shooting, reactive targets, milk cartons...
Go for gas for the recoil and to avoid any latch up issues with repeated single shots on aegs. Buy an AR and customise it to your hearts content, they're Barbie for boys.
From my perspective if my choice was a single shot airgun AR or a select fire airsoft AR it would be the airsoft. I know this is true for me because I have the mp5k in both 4.5mm and 6mm flavours, and simply put - mp5's aren't semi auto guns, even though they are.
I'll still end up buying an airgun AR because I'm a bloke, I'm weak willed and "ohh look, shiny".
I’m reasonably ok for pistols just now. Left column. "Billy... we need to talk"
Actually we do,what's the 5th down 1911, the bog standard looking 1911A1?
The thing I'd have to say to the admin team and the users is that it's nice to be able to talk about rules and how they might flex or change without getting jumped on from a great height, not for asking for change but just for voicing an opinion and offering a perspective that may not align with everyone else.
Nice.

Awesome responses gents, glad we are allowed to discuss in RIF-RAF as I really want one and think it might be next on my list. I've wanted one since I had a try with one at the Northern Shooting Show on the reactive target range. Great fun and way more accurate than I thought they would be at the range we were shooting at.
Happy days - top forum!

Me personally, nah. This forum is called Replica Airgun Forum. Airsoft are nice but they belong in their own forum (and there are many airsoft forums) because they are not airguns. But I will go with the flow. That is just my opinion.

How can a co2 powered replica 4.5mm BB gun be an air gun but not a co2 powered replica of the same gun that shoots 6mm BB? I personally think that this forum should welcome discussion on any true replica gun which uses gas in any form (including air generated by spring, pump or electric motor) to expel a projectile at less than 6/12ft lbs where legally appropriate. I would personally also like to see a section for deacts because I find it fascinating to see comparison photos between real and replica. But that’s just me 😉

My opinion is that where it should stay and perhaps let people chat about battery operated airsoft in that place. See I'm flexible Nick. Perhaps we should have a section for discussing IF's as well? I saw a lovely orange and blue AK47 in Skegness the other day.

LOL, not at you, at me! I nearly mentioned Nerf when framing the question "so what is an airgun?"
Spring powered, manually cocked - tick!
The modding comunity around Nerf is an amazing thing. Might be out of scope for this community, although if you look at some of the Fortnite tie-ins while its a stretch to say "replica" they are certainly recognisable characatures.

We all have our own definitions as to what constitutes anything to be classed as a replica. This forum, although being set up predominantly for CO2 powered BB & pellet firing replica weapons (which generally are 4.5mm in calibre), is non-blinkered and fluid enough to adapt to changes within our hobby. The latest changes in calibre sizes (T4e) eg. .43, .50 & .60 have already been accepted into this forum and given their own section to allow the discussion of such things between members who are interested and as such, AEGs can now be covered by the umbrella of this forum for similar members discussions.
If members wish to discuss these types of replicas then this forum SHOULD be the place to discuss them, we already lead the field in terms of an informational database for CO2 powered replicas within our technical section, schematics section, reviews and general discussions. As a forum we always need to be aware of changes within our shared hobby, not everyone will be enthralled with future developments but we must also be accepting of these changes.
I should point out that I'm personally not interested in AirSoft, AEG, T4e types of replica but it's no good me burying my head in the sand and pretending that they don't exist just because I'm not interested in them, we do need to be inclusive rather than exclusive. I know that some members will be thinking,"So where do we draw the line ?" and as soon as I come to it I'll let everyone else know but for the moment we will continue along these lines.
Anyway, sermon over, normal service will resume shortly.....

I quite like some of these nerf weapons. Can we have a sub section for these?
