I was just looking at the slide stop and take down notches, the top pistol shows wear in these areas where the slide stop has engaged, the lower shows no wear that I can see. I found this same wear on some of my past owned steel 1911’s, so it seems to have no bearing on how much the pistol cost to make. I believe it’s all down to the angle it enters and the timing. You see the same wear on some Glocks as well. I have just bought a new stainless steel slide Glock 19, and have just spent sometime re-profiling the slide stop notch because of wear.

Never really though about it. Took some more pics of both. The AS has no wear on the notched but a lot on barrel and ejection port. The AW has notch wear.

The timing must be absolutely perfect on the AS version, the notch looks like brand new.

On a few guns that I care about, I've modified a spare mag so that the tab that operates the slide lock is removed. That way I can eliminate bruising and wear on notches but if i ever want the slide to lock, use the other tabbed mag.
It also means that you can easily dry-fire the gun with the ‘de-tabbed’ mag.

Was told by real steel 1911 owners, to always lubricate these points. I've followed their lead, and scuffing has been minimal to the barrel on a couple of newly bought 1911s, as opposed to non lubricated older ones.
