My Sig Sauer X5 has always been something of a disappointment, it really didn't pack any kind of punch for such a large heavy pistol. The general view online seems to be similar, but I recently found a thread on a US site where someone had altered various things and got some definite improvements. One of them was to increase the 1mm bore of the capsule piercing spike, but I found that there was no scope to do it on mine, so I made a new one with a 2mm bore. [/url
Makes a nice big hole for good gas flow!
The other alteration I made was to take half a mm off the front end of the valve spindle to allow it to move forward a bit more so the seat would open a bit further and allow more gas through. And the result? Naff all difference. ðĄ One other suggestion from the guy was to fit a stronger hammer spring. To get to it required an almost complete strip down. The spring is quite unusual in that it is a small coil spring totally contained inside the body of the hammer. Rather than fit a new spring (that I didn't actually have anyway) I added a couple of millimeters of pre-load. And the result? BANG! BANG! BANG! With a very nice kick. ððð Can't wait to try it out over a reasonable distance now, but accuracy at around eight feet was not particularly good. ð Maybe I need to work on my hold... ðĪŠ

Good result in the end, I do like the super-sized piercing nozzle though.

The other things I did while it was stripped down were polishing all the accessible contact points and putting moly on the high load points and watch oil on the magazine indexing mechanism; this really made a difference to the trigger feel, still a long pull as the belt systems are though. I also put some more counterbore on the muzzle end of the barrel shroud, not a massive difference, but it made me happier! Still fiddling around with the finish on the end to make it look as good as I can get it.

When should I drop mine off Modski66? ð I did wonder about your experience and if you wanted a boost! You would be able to do the pre-load on the hammer easily, that would be the first thing to try, just needs a 2mm long, 4mm diameter packer under the spring.

I am a bit concerned about the enlarged piercing nozzle Mark... as there will be larger slivers of steel, from the bulb cap entering the valve chamber....unless of course there is a mesh filter in place ...?
Pete.

Not to worry Pete, it punches out a complete disc in one piece that is bigger than the bore of the piercer. I didn't include the sintered filter as it was getting decidely thin around the neck of the wider section when I was boring it out. I don't worry about stuff like that when I can have the whole valve assembly out in two minutes on this pistol! ð
