Picked up the spares and repair M1 Carbine which was posted in the Bargain section from a nice chap in Manchester today for £90. 2x magazines, strap with oil cart included and boxed in original SA packaging. Guy told me it fires but is very weak and then kicks into full auto as the air pisses out.
Condition is spot on, the wooden stock is in great nick, there are just a few scuffs on the metal collar at the front end but I might age this one anyway. My original M1 is at the top here and the faulty one at the bottom.
First test, CO2 into both of the magazines with a drop of the ol' Pellgun oil. Both tighten with a nice hiss and no leaks so happy with that. Loaded into the faulty M1 and took a dry fire - it fires but sounds terrible and doesn't blow back properly to re-cock the rifle. This is the same result with both magazines. I've then tested with my M1 and it works perfectly - so not the magazines, another tick in the box ☑️
I've then taken it apart and it's quite stiff to undo and the fore screw is tight, I don't think it's ever been tinkered with and the guy did mention he doesn't meddle with them. I also open up my working one to compare side by side. I have cocked both out of the stock to view the mechanism, both identical and nothing appears to be missing.
Fired then to release, my M1 fires perfectly - the faulty one flicks forward with a limp sound and pops this baby out onto the carpet -
Not one of mine! I have never used black BBs. Re-cock both and both now release in the same way with the same sound.
Re-assembled and both now firing BBs into my test box with some force! Result!
They do sound different on firing however, but not in a bad way - it's hard to describe. I am going to chrono them both tomorrow and see if there is any difference.
Does anyone have any chrono results from an M1 that I can compare with?
