Pellet name - H&N Excite Plinking
pellet weight - 7.25 grain
pellet size - ?4.5mm? (unsized but definitely >4.52mm)
Shape - wadcutter with ribbed skirt
material - lead
These are definitely one of the best 'plinking' pellets you can buy but I will have to say that with just one clause, which I will mention now. I only use mine only after I've put them through a sizing die (either 4.50mm or 4.52mm), for the purpose of this post I am going to specifically talk about the 4.52mm sized versions but when I get to my final thoughts I'm going to mention about the 4.50mm sized version too.
As stated, when resized through a 4.52mm sizing die these are remarkably accurate in a good few of my pistols and these are my go to 4.52mm pellets for these guns. Accuracy is great, consistency of groupings is both reliable and repeatable. For the price they are there's nothing that beats them. I should point out that when I have sized them with a 4.52mm pellet sizer absolutely none of them fall through which leads me to believe that these are bigger than 4.52mm, definitely at least 4.53mm, if not larger. The QC is very good on these pellets too, they're well made and I haven't ever found a 'dud' pellet (mishaped etc.) in any tins that I've used.
Gun and pellet combinations
All Umarex Colt SAA revolvers
Chiappa Rhino
Webley mkVI
Final Thoughts
These are a great pellet at a great price, at around the £3 mark they just can't be beaten. When sized for 4.52mm they're great for the guns listed above and give good accuracy and repeatable performance but when sized down to 4.50mm they are the perfect plinking pellet for;
All ASG Dan Wesson 715 revolvers
All ASG Dan Wesson 1st generation revolvers
Umarex Colt Python 6" & 4" revolvers (shell loading version)
Remington 1875 / Crosman Sheridan Cowboy revolver
Umarex Desert Eagle
Gletcher Nagant revolver
Umarex Schofield revolver
So, there you have it, one pellet that (when sized correctly) is actually perfect suited for plinking and even a bit of target work for all of my pellet firing guns in my collection. This is one pellet that (when sized) I can totally recommend. But why size them ? I hear you ask, well without being sized I found that they lacked consistency both in terms of accuracy and the size of the groupings, the 'odd flyer' became the 'every other shot flyer' and there's nothing more infuriating than inconsistency, you end up questioning yourself (grip, breathing, trigger control etc.) and when I changed to re-sizing the pellets it all stopped, immediately ! But for the money, the small out lay on a pellet sizer and the time involved makes it all worth while, especially when your accuracy improves, plus it makes zeroing in any gun far easier if you have a consistent size and weight of pellet.
