I didn't have to totally strip down my Schofield when i did my barrel shortening mod but took a few photos and thought i would post them as they maybe of use to someone along with a step by step guide to strip down as far as i did.'
1. Remove both grips
2. Remove the rear sight/catch by undoing the screws either side of the frame that hold it on [CAUTION sight catch is spring loaded .. the spring must be relocated correctly into the bottom right hand corner of the sight catch when re-fitting or catch will not work]
3. Remove the barrel pivot screw
4. Remove the 3 tiny left side frame plate screws and remove the plate [CAUTION The safety switch may fall out when the plate is removed]
5. The barrel and cylinder assembly can now be removed .. push the shell lifter lock down slightly to disengage it and pull the barrel cylinder assembly off the pivot shaft [CAUTION as the shell lifter lock may fall out also the valve lifter lever located in the middle of the barrel pivot may also fall out]
6. Remove the cylinder retainer on the outer by knocking out the 2 retaining pins [CAUTION knock these out from right to left ] with the retainer removed the cylinder complete with spring and shell lifter can be removed from the barrel in one piece
7. To remove the inner barrel complete with forcing cone , spring and front barrel guide knock out the tiny retaining pin [CAUTION knock the pin out from right to left.. barrel is spring loaded and can float front to back the spring pushes the inner barrel toward the forcing cone so might help to push forward on the forcing cone slightly to take pressure off the retaining pin when you knock it out]
I didn't strip my Schofield down any further than this but will post the photos i have taken of the inside workings along with photos which may make some of the above non literature a little clearer
Apologies for my poor punctuation but I'm a grease monkey not an academic ... i hope this is of use to someone
