Well I finally managed to track down a wood kit for my Winnie (well, more precisely a Umarex Cowboy Rifle) from a guy on ebay. It turned up today, started to fit it by the time the posty got to the bottom of my drive (roughly about 3.5 seconds), 15 minutes later all done, 5 minutes polishing with the compulsory R-wax and viola.... It looks stunning in the hand, far better than the pictures show and it feels so very different too, not hollow or plasticky at all, I'm loving it. My only negative is that the wood isn't walnut but something like white oak that has been stained to look like walnut but in truth I was going to weather it all in the end so it just means that I'll have to be very careful and I'll probably end up getting some more wood stains for it. I've just got to start researching into old Winnies now for some guidance of how they look and then try to copy that. If anyone is thinking of doing the same I highly recommend it as it changes the feel of the gun tremendously and is totally worth doing.

Well that's really nice H. Weathering on the metal parts looks good too. Are you weathering the wood? I did read the post but not sure if its being stained or aged. Probably my brain. I'm having a wooly day.

I'm having a wooly day. Yeah the Winchester has been aged a bit by myself, I'm going to age the wood furniture now to match it. It'll probably be a bit of both, a bit of wear & tear and then a bit of dark staining.

I like the aged and slightly battered look. Reminds me of old westerns where the weapons are scuffed and battle worn. Cracking stuff H.

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to getting some 'age' on it sometime soon to match in with the rest of the gun, which actually was the problem with the plastic furniture as I honestly couldn't see a way to do it successfully without ruining the look of it completely.
I'm going to take a good while just studying pictures of old Winchesters and try to work out how to do it so that it looks right.

Looking good Shaun - how much was the wood set if you don't mind me asking?

Looking good Shaun - how much was the wood set if you don't mind me asking? Managed to snag it for £90 off a fella on ebay, he bought it and then realised that it was specifically for the AS version ! So he just sold it on to reclaim his cash back not realising that it fits the 4.5mm version just as easily, well after a 'little' bit of sanding to the inside of the stock. His loss was my gain, especially as you can't seem to get them from the manufacturers anymore. All the websites seem to be out of stock !
