Like a stripper never quite getting her knockers out before I had to leave, the frustration I felt waiting for my 92fs delivery was substantial. I ordered from my local gun shop to keep them in business and to avoid getting a lemon by being able to check the pistol before acceptance and to make sure some other punter hadn’t returned it after jamming the barrel and taking a Philips to the innards.
After several weeks of pretending I wasn’t bothered that my current request to supply a 92FS was still unfulfilled I received a telephone call from a Mr A. Gun-shop Owner who regaled me of tales of stock arriving including not one but two 92fs’ in not only nickel … but black! The thought I actually had to make a choice in my life made me feel giddy and I spent many hours minutes You-tubing You-tube in hope of enlightenment and some b****r breaking the third wall, looking straight at me and saying “FFS just buy the nickel, you know you want it!”
…. and I almost did. Almost. I duly went to the shop determined that the nickel plated pistol would be coming home with me and yet, in the flesh, or rather nickel, it just didn’t do it for me. A bit like the wife wearing scratchy suspenders when all I want is an old flannel nightie and a cuddle, the bells and whistles of the nickel over the black were just that, bells and whistles and all the bits that would be hammered, literally, the hammer, were painted black and would be showing chipped paint and bare alloy after a few cycles regardless and end up looking like a well dressed woman with smeared lipstick - a bit tatty. I waved good bye to the nickel coated pistol as the gun shop owner waved good-bye to his extra £50 profit. Leaving the shop I was 98% sure I’d made the right choice, right up until the wife said “You should have got the other one!” - it’s her fault if I go back next week and pick up the nickel pistol too!
A lovely case with locking clasps was the bounty of braving the outside world and a trip to the gun shop today;
I like a nice set of paperwork with new purchases. It seems to somehow make the package complete,
And here's the gun nicely cleaned up and free from the bag of oil it was swimming in pre-purchase;
The king is dead, long live the king
Owning a collection of often used and popular blowback pistols I was a little concerned I’d be underwhelmed by rewinding my gun shooting life twenty years to a time when I shot pellet firers exclusively and feared my disappointment would be immeasurable. One or two of my fellow gun owning friends back then were forever spoiled from the joys of CO2 plinking through firearms use and snottily measured my pellet plinkers FPS in farts per second, along with inviting me to try and break a Champaign bottle with a CO2 pistol - I failed, thanks CP88 you failed me even when you did mange to work lol. That said, the British government nicked had those particular friends surrender most of their guns eventually and now they are fully ensconced into all things air along with one or two other legally held shooty type things, albeit far far removed from their heady 9mm golden years. Still, the Champaign bottle memory lingered as I stared at the charged, loaded and ready to fire 92fs and as I flicked the safety off and prepared myself for a certain lack of amazement I heard a voice, and like Mike Tyson in his heyday this pistol spoke to me and said - without lisping - ‘I’m not gonna put on a show for you, I’m not gonna blow back anything, I’m not gonna lock back anything, I’m gonna get the job done.’ - and get it done in spades it did, in fact I shot the king of spades with it.
New gun new pellets
I’m your huckleberry
I never compare pistols especially different versions of the same model, I believe that always leads to dissatisfaction in one form or another, therefore everything is equal in my eyes, until it’s not! - Hooo-lally! This pistol is the most accurate, easy to load, CO2 frugal pistol I own and I’m rather over the moon in it - That’s not to say my Glock wouldn’t be cradled in my arms during a rush to escape a house fire while the rest melted into a pool of plastic and pot metal but … I am indeed rather smitten with my new 92fs.
Has it knocked the Glock off the top spot for me? Yes and no. As a favourite target shooter absolutely. I can hit a bullseye with the FS and barely hit a target with the Glock at some distances. I don’t know how much distance, I’ve never measured but perhaps that's something for the future along with a chronograph machine and other fun things this forum has added to my ever increasing shopping list.
A discussion on the merits of wardrobe changes for Berettas:
Keep Calm And …
My wife bought me a big book of posters. That’s one above, tastefully redecorated with my new Beretta 92FS.
Freestanding Friday; fun and gun
My new Beretta continues to surprise me both in single and double action and the trigger is far smoother than I’d have believed before shooting it myself. My eight shots from the rotary magazine were gone in no time due to the very addictive quick cycle fun factor and generally ended up in a comfortably tight grouping in whatever I decided to hit.
The target, box and several newspapers within were quickly shredded into hamster bedding twenty feet back, freestanding:
Hard Air & Econ II
This combination works very well indeed in the Beretta, no jams no issues, lots of power and 10 plus mags emptied before any noticeable power drop off
This one's a keeper
Front sight replacement
Not quite six million and much closer to eight quid off eBay, I decided to buy a new front sight for my Beretta 92 as it was shooting a tad high. Inspired since childhood by watching episodes of the Six Million Dollar Man, I held a firm belief that things can be rebuilt, so taking a Phillips to my new gun was viewed as an adventure rather than a challenge.
We can rebuild it
A slot head and a Phillips screwdriver is all it takes to dismantle a £200 gun and not a bio scientist, heart monitor or plastic leg in sight.
Several metal plates and the odd o ring to remove before freeing the barrel holding the front sight in place.
Not quite an operating cloth, none the less I was quite happy with my work at this point as I hadn’t lost any bits or had my eye taken out by an errant spring.
Sight V sight
There’s a noticeable size difference in the original front sight on the right and the new and improved glow in the dark carbon fibre 3d printed replacement on the left. That’s what the blurb said when I bought it and for eight quid I’m happy to test it out. I haven’t yet … I ran out of daylight.

I've not fired a pellet gun in a number of years and forgot how much gosh darn fun they actually are!

I have tested the glow in the dark’ie’ness and yes it glows in the dark, lines up perfectly between the rear iron sights and blends into the profile of the overall pistol beautifully.
