Hey all, I have the 1911 RAC and the milbro tactical, thanks to @headhunter Shaun’s excellent guides I’ve stripped down lubed and polished the sears a little on the Milbro so the pull is nice and crisp. The only thing I don’t like is the rail. I’m more old school Here’s the thing I’d really like a 70-80’s style combat special 1911 like this. Does anyone know if there is such a thing out there, or do I strip both RAC and milbro frames fully down and see if I can cut and grind the back to fit the beavertail then polish the frame up? And switch over the long trigger and nicely tuned innards? anyone attempted similar? cheers Ian

As far as I know the Milbro and the KWC are not interchangeable, there are differences that may make cannibalising one to fit the other very difficult, not impossible, but very difficult. I've not heard of anyone doing such a thing but there's always a first time and if you ain't trail blazing then you ain't living, lol (the link you posted doesn't open correctly, keeps coming up 'FORBIDDEN 403', I don't know if you can adjust that or even just post a picture of the gun in question)

Hi Shaun, Turns out the Milbro is the same as the RAC 1911 Tactical which are all KWC based so bits are interchangeable, the scary bit is reprofiling the back of the frame to fit the beavertail. As I suspect the commander style hammer will foul the older style grip safety. I've switched the RAC's arched mainspring housing over to the Milbro as I prefer the feel to the flat one. There's a guide here looks good. un12magazine.com/do-it-yourself-1911-grip-safety-installation/Or I can do this Your guides were a great help. Cheers Ian

I prefer the normal old fashioned 1911's to the tactical types.

I prefer the normal old fashioned 1911's to the tactical types. Me too....I'm also somewhat of a traditionalist. That Pachmayr is a very smart looking pistol, especially as it has adjustable sights instead of a rail.

The Special Combat's worst feature (IMHO) is that 'orrible skinny trigger. Looks so wrong! Aesthetically, on the 1911, you can't beat the original one-piece trigger.

Thanks guys I’ve done this so far - swapped frames for now. I’ll have a look at those pages, thanks I agree with guitarman on the DA/SA combat special, just not right should be single action only.

I Must admit the combat special wasn't my cup of tea either , thats why i sold mine (much prefer old school) .... i was just thinking of the look of it ... pity it wasn't single action gas blowback with the proper trigger if it had been i might have kept it.

And switch over the long trigger and nicely tuned innards? anyone attempted similar? cheers Ian Y'know.....a 'traditional' style air gun 1911, treated to that (matt/satin silver frame & gloss black slide) 2-tone finish wold look rather smart I think.....and would be very tempting, to me at least.

While we're on the subject of 1911's, does anyone happen to know what the standard screw/thread size is for the grip screws? (if there is a standard size🤔) I'm trying to source some chrome versions for mine.

Indeed I think thats the endgame for this one, I'll have to dust the polishing wheel off (aldi middle isle bargain) See if I can get the tactical rail off the slide. Local place might cerakote once I've got the finish sorted.

(if there is a standard size🤔) I'm trying to source some chrome versions for mine. They are some random Imperial sized screws but there are plenty of replacement sets available on eBay and/or Ali Express for them, they're generally quite cheap. I got some fancy silver star drive versions from AE a few years back for around £2-£3 (including the star driver).
