I have one of the above and splendid it is too. Among all the blurb on the box it states with BAX shooting system. I have to ask, what is this?

It's a type of hop up, there's a small rubber ring that sits just inside the breech end of the barrel. It causes the BB to be spun as it's launched by the CO2 along the inner barrel, this imparted spin is supposed to aid accuracy and reduce the drop effect in the BB, giving it a more linear flight path up to about 10m.

It’s what Cybergun calls hop-up. As your pistol is derived from an Airsoft 1911 but fitted with 4.5mm internals it still has the BAX installed. With normal hop-up there’s two points of contact on the BB while it’s in the chamber, the top and bottom. With BAXS there’s three points of contact, two on the top and one on the bottom. Basically, BAXS gives you more control over the BB, so instead of floating up or down after 30+ feet, the BB will continue going straight. It’s adjustable by removing the slide and turning the BAX wheel. It spins the BB reducing air pressure on the top side increasing range and stability. Ie, the Magnus Effect.

Thanks Capt, I knew someone would know on here. Can I ask is it actually effective or more of a gimmick. If it really is useful why don't they give us information on the box or instructions.

It does work only you only see a difference if you wind it fully on or off. Full off is not a good idea as the bb can fall through the barrel. I set mine for poi at 6 yards. There should be a manual in the box with instructions. Something like this from one of my 1911’s.

Thanks Capt. My manual which is very poor makes no mention of it, so thanks again. Next chance I get will get it on the range and see what's what. At the moment it hits around 2 inches high at 8 yards. Also, may I ask who you would recommend for spare magazines. There are few on Google, but who to go too.

Personally, I've never seen a BAX system on a 4.5mm 1911. Mine has a rubber ring/grommet type of arrangement that is non adjustable, but then again my two where Remington 1911s and not Cybergun but they're all made by KWC so you'd think that the internals would all be the same.
Is this a 6mm airsoft gun or a 4.5mm replica ?
(I should have asked this first I suppose but I thought that it would have been posted in the AS section if it was a 6mm)

Just removed the slide off the Swiss Arms again and there is no Bax wheel in there. No problem though as I am happy as it is.

I think that the reason why BAX adjustment is given to airsofters over 4.5mm gun enthusiasts is because there is a lot of difference in weights of 6mm plastic BBs, having the ability to adjust the hop up for differing weights of projectiles would be very useful for the AS fraternity whereas it would have limited function for us 4.5mm guys as the steel BBs we use are all roughly the same weight (5.1 grains). With that being said I've used plastic, steel and lead BBs in some of my guns (weighing 2, 5.1 & 8.4 grains respectively) so having an adjustable hop up would actually be quite useful in certain situations.
