Oiled the old M1 Carbine today and while i was at it i decided to fit the spare wood stock ive got... i changed it originally for a real M1Carbine stock as i wanted a pale beech look, i then refurbished this stock [which is the one that came with it new] and its been in the box ever since ... thought i would give it an airing lol. first pic is beech real steel stock others are refurbed stock

Love both versions. I guess it's hard to argue with "real" but the darker look is more like the picture I have in my head.
I'd still find a loving home for either though

gunman1964 these are lovely mate but that dark stock looks superb. You've mentioned this was the original stock that came with the rifle from Springfield Armory - can I ask what you did to it to bring out the grain so nicely and the finish you've applied? Also, is that bayonet original and where did you manage to pick one up? Cheers - JD

The Bayonet was from Soldier of fortune.. £29.99 with scabbard The stock finish ... first sanded off ALL the old finnish and stain grdually working down with finer and finer grades until smooth ... then steam over boiling water to lift the end grain finally sand using 0000 wire wool until super smooth. apply wood stain ... i think i used american walnut .. then sand again with 0000 wire wool , not too hard as you might remove stain i then treated the stock with tru oil ... one coat a night for 5 nights sanding gently using 0000 wire wool between coats. left the last coat to dry for a week so it could harden a bit then gently went over with wire wool to remove some of the shin and make it smooth again ... finally wax polished to finish

Thanks pal 👍🏻

yes mate thats the one .... i think i had to do a tiny bit of filing to it to get it to fit ... not very much at all .... a word of caution though .... it might only be a replica but its REALLY sharp
