They were some M3 B&Q brass plated steel. Unfortunately the heads were 6mm, but the hole is just over 5mm. Fortunately I have a lathe, some emery paper and some cold blue solution. 😁 The M2 screw is going to be a bit tricker as I have only seen stainless steel versions with the slotted head so far. But I will find a way of doing it...

Getting standard M2 slotted screws in anything other than A2 or brass is always going to be difficult, the older slotted steel screws are invariably going to be in old money (BSP or Whitworth etc.) unfortunately. If you've got a lathe (which I know you do) you could always have a go at making a blank from scratch and just use a M2 die on the stud, at least that way you could cold blue it afterwards.

I am looking at fitting the proper escutcheons to the M29 grips. But they are expensive to buy.

I've been looking for those for the last few years and I can concur with you, they're bloody expensive for what they are !
I've tried a load of places (ebay, gun forums in the US, Chinese traders, Brownells, etc.), hopefully you might have better luck than me, if you manage to track any down please send me a PM with a link to them buddy...

I'm looking at some brass ones that could do the job, they'll cost a couple of quid for a set (M3 sized). What I'll do is order them and then cut, file and sand them to shape, then threadlock them into the collars and fit them to mine and you can see if you like them. But they will just be 'faux' ones but at least they'll look better than the plastic ones.

That is what I was going to do with one if I could get one. If yours comes out good, do a set for me please. Pretty please.

No worries buddy, I've just ordered them. I might need to get Modski66 and his trusty lathe involved with trimming the heads down to size but I'm almost positive that we can get his involvement, especially if I chuck a few sets his way as payment for services rendered. But I might have a go with a file, the pillar drill and a go/no go gauge first. One of the suppliers is in Lincoln but the other is in China, so it might take a week or two to get here via slow boat but it's in action, the solution is coming
