I have a (non-replica alert!) Zastava co2 target pistol that is a bit underpowered, but Econ II perform almost as well in my fps tests as MK 4.5mm, despite being 0.48gr heavier. Over five shots the Econ were 252 fps with a variation of 4, the MK's were 261 with a variation of 9. Can't really comment on accuracy as I haven't been able to use it in a while. My theory is that the lead is softer in the Econ's and the skirt forms a better seal in the bore, smooth or rifled. I might try the Econ IIs in another chronograph test, just to see how they fair as the accuracy with them was as good (if not better) than the RWS MKs.

Gave the 5" a go at 10m rested using an adapted camera tripod today. Put 6 Geco into a group a shade under an inch with 5 in ¾". Pretty good for a smoothbore

Well, I've just met Mark ( Modski66 ) and picked up my replacement rifled inner barrel for the 'Beast' Old smoothbore above the new rifled version. Ignore the visual difference in length between the two, that's just bad camera parallax, they are both absolutely identical in length. Just look at that lovely rifling ! begging for a soft lead pellet, lol. He's a great guy who has done a fabulous job ! I'm hoping to get it fitted over the next couple of days and get it tested for fps and accuracy again. As well as turning out a replacement inner he also had to widen the throat in the forcing cone as it would have restricted the pellet enough that it would of failed to engage the rifling in the new barrel, so he's done a stellar job as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately I'm busy over the next two to three days with external commitments that cannot be avoided but once Thursday is here I should be free to retro fit the new barrel and start the testing process, fingers crossed that is Just a big thank you to Mark for all he's done, it's really appreciated buddy

It was great to put a face to the name, (shame he is such an ugly bugger). Seriously, great to meet you Shaun, hope it all goes back together smoothly and gives you some accuracy gains.

Can I ask if the power could be increased by reducing the strength of the valve closing spring?

sixgunnerThe simple answer is - not so as you would notice. The pressure exerted on the valve by the spring is dwarfed by the pressure of the gas on the back face of the valve stem. The energy exerted on the valve stem by the hammer will act on the spring as if batting a fly away.

Can I ask if the power could be increased by reducing the strength of the valve closing spring? You can only increase the power by increasing the volume of CO2 that passes through the valve once it's been activated by the hammer, a good way of doing this is by porting the valve openings slightly. I've done this to my DW715 revolvers and have seen an increase of between 12-15% in fps, reducing the spring pressure has a minimal effect (as Modski66 pointed out) in increasing fps.

Well I managed to get an opportunity to chronograph and shoot the gun today. Firstly the chrono' results, I got a average of 332fps over the course of 66 shots, so basically a +25fps increase. Not too shabby and an increase is always welcome. Generally the results were far more consistent when compared to the smoothbore barrel, the lowest recorded fps was 311, with the highest being 363fps. Happy with that.... Secondly the accuracy results, absolutely incredible ! Once I dialled the sights in she was putting 4 shots out of 6 in the same hole at 5m, with the other 2 being just 2-3mm from the edge, all that was done two handed, unrested and obviously in single action. I should point out that the accuracy with the smoothbore barrel was prettydarn good to begin with but this takes it to another level, I was consistently losing the pellet holes in the 10mm black circles that I use for zeroing in the gun. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll do some proper target shooting on some 14x14 paper targets and throw up the results, that way you can see for yourself. My next project with the gun is to strip the innards out of it and fettle the valve to hopefully increase the power a little more.
