HeadHunter would you have any objection to me printing these for use at our local club? I'd like to put them on a stand by the firing line because we have a lot of inexperienced shooters and I spend my time running around stopping the idiots pointing the muzzle at everything except the target with their fingers on the trigger. It's wonderful being part of a club but we don't do enough to coach safety in my opinion. Trouble is the rest of the committee just want to get more people in Absolutely no problem at all buddy,

At my Airgun club we do not allow inexperienced members to shoot alone. They have to go through a rigorous 3 months probationary safety training period with a committee member or range officer. On any of our firing stations or lines the words you hear the most is ‘gun clear’

It's tough, especially when you just want to shoot some targets

Alternate between yourselfs nightly/daily so the burden doesn’t fall on a single individual. We have to be like this in Scotland as ranges are police approved and members have to adhere to strict safety standards.

The Melbourne Marksmen safety talk has the phrase "fingers off the trigger until the gun is on the target".

We haven't got a safety talk... It's important to get people through the door into any club, without increments in membership most clubs stagnate and become stale quite rapidly but safety is of paramount importance, without it it'll be just a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' something bad happens and then safety won't matter as the club will close due to safety negligence and ultimately financial litigation. I can guarantee that the Chairman won't fall on his sword when that day comes, he'll be the guy pointing his finger at everyone else declaring that they've let the side down. Personally, if it was me I'd introduce proper safety practices into the club (despite the Chairman's blinkered view on the subject), including a probationary period for all new members until they can prove that they are totally safe with any weapon. A range safety officer is mandatory on all gun ranges, if there's no safety officer then there's simply no shooting and anyone who takes that position has the final word on safety irrespective of the bloody Chairman, club secretary or anyone else for that matter ! Just my own thoughts buddy

I'm with you 100%, I'll raise it with them this weekend.
My dad came a few weeks back, he was a weapons instructor in a past life and he had quite a few opinions on the safety of the club and to be honest, I haven't actually been back since. I'll chat with the secretary, who used to be a pistol coach, and together we can create something decent and effective
